The Mexicanas en Michigan Foundation is thrilled to announce a unique and exciting event to embrace the Michigan winter: a Ski and Snowboarding Winter Adventure on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the beautiful Mt. Holly Ski and Snowboarding Resort.

This event is designed to introduce Mexican families in Michigan to the excitement of snow sports—many for the first time—while breaking the perception that skiing and snowboarding are only for the elite. Our goal is to make winter fun accessible and affordable for everyone by removing financial barriers and creating a welcoming environment to experience the magic of Michigan winters.

• Activities: Skiing and snowboarding lessons, equipment rentals, and lift tickets are included in the package.

We, Friends on Board Foundation (FOBF), a 501(c)(3) entity, and Mexicanas en Michigan (MEM), an organization with 9,800+ members, are excited to be hosting our Annual Posada y Bazar to promote Mexican traditions, food and culture, and support small business owners and entrepreneurs. As always this event’s proceeds will fund scholarships for Hispanic girls and women in Michigan.

Mission: To empower Mexican women in Michigan through education, cultural heritage promotion, community wellbeing, and entrepreneurship support.

We invite your business to sponsor this great event, which will take place on Saturday December 14th, 2024 at 4:30 pm at Royal Oak Farmers Market in Royal Oak: 316 E 11 Mile Rd, Royal Oak, MI 48067. We expect approximately 1,000 people to attend, most of them members of the South-East Michigan Hispanic community.

Mexicanas en Michigan Joins the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce:

A New Chapter for Growth and Empowerment

We are excited to announce that Mexicanas en Michigan (MeM) Foundation has officially joined the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MHCC)! As an organization dedicated to empowering Mexican women in Michigan, this partnership marks an important milestone in our journey to expand opportunities and deepen our impact within the community.

On Thursday, September 19, MeM attended Tercer Jueves hosted by MHCC on the third Thursday each month. Tercer Jueves is a business networking event at which Mem celebrated our new membership of. We met many Hispanic professionals, listened to very inspirational speeches and ate very good food on the rooftop of the Huntington Tower in Downtown Detroit.

Over 100 runner arrived to Kensington Park to participate in our very first 5K Race organize by Friends on Board Foundation to increase the awareness of Domestic Violence and encourage people engage in Physical Activity.

Packages were given between 7:30 to 9:15 followed by stretching and warm-up exercises lead by one of our volunteers prior to the official start of the race. It was great to see many families participating both running and walking in this event to support these causes.

The route was easy and pleasant especially while running/walking in front of the lake. At 2.5 Km a volunteer gave a bracelet to confirm that all runners arrive to halfway point and back to the finish-start arch we have several volunteers clapping and encouraging the participants. The winners received their prizes at Awarding ceremony following the end of the race.

A free Zumba and Yoga class was offered as well later in the day.

The Picnic started at noon with families arriving with grills, tents, chairs and board games. A Soccer game started as well.New Paragraph

5K 2019 Empowering Artisans

And our second 5K Race arrived early in the morning at Kensington Park last Sunday August 26. Over 100 runners arrived to participate and help to Empower Artisans back in Mexico. This year we choose 3 Organizations that preserve cultural identity of our artisans through the creations of different handcrafts.

Kusa settle in Chihuahua, Colectivo Gladiola from Puebla and MUMA from Oaxaca are Women Organizations that will receive all the donations received as registration.

The prizes were donated by Casart and awarded first Man, Woman and Kid arrived.

Start time was at 9:30am everybody left and in Km 2.5 it was a statin for half way and everybody received a colorful brazalete to prove thet they complete 5K.

Congratulations to the winners and all participants.

OFRENDA 2018

Mexicanas en Michigan through the Friends on Board Foundation for the 5th year participated in the Detroit Institute of Arts Ofrenda Contest winning a spot to represent International Mexican Women that dedicate their lives to making a better world.

The 2018 Altar was dedicated to the Women that died during the Earthquakes of 1985 and 2017in Mexico City and were working in the textile factories, in both occasions it wasn’t enough time for them to vacate the facilities; however, as a result of this tragedy, conditions in Mexican labor have started to get better and continue to improve.

Thanks to all volunteers that helped to create this Ofrenda whose hands help crate the colorful mix of flowers and who help set-up and decorate the exhibit and a special thank you to Alberto a plastic artist out of Detroit, MI that developed the Concept and all colors and all the hands of many Mexicans that create all flowers to decorate and help to set up on site.

SKI 2018

Our Mexicans like the snow and they gather for 2 consecutive days to ski in Brighton!

For the first time, Friends on Board organized 2 Ski Outings due the amount of persons interested in get involve with the sport that you can learn as you live in Michigan.

A s the saying states “Where you go-live, you do what you see” , Mexicanas en Michigan got their families together and showed up the first Saturday as many as 115 persons ready to ski.

Late February another 70 Mexicans arrived to ski again, many for the first time and have fun learning, falling and smiling!!!

POSADA 2018

Ferndale High school was the place we held our 6th Annual Traditional Posada in 2018 and it was a great success!

Approximately 1,000 people attended this event during the 7 hours of traditional Mexican activities that were displayed.

This event was supported by several business and institutions like Maximus, Nino Savaggio, Home Depot, Executive Language Services, Ella Rae, NAHN, E&L Super Market, Randazzo’s Fresh Market, Lilia Vega Ingram, Ma. Elena Garcia Master Realtor, M Catina, 5/e Bank, Aeromexico among others.

For the first time we hosted a Piñata Contest; and then a Traditional Pastorela (storytelling/play of Christ’s birth), Traditional Chanting posada, Regional Folklore Dances , Singer Beatriz Morales and WSDS radio personality “Batman”.

The largest prize awarded to one lucky winner was a roundtrip flight from Detroit to Mexico, provided by Aeromexico Airlines along with many other great prizes by our sponsors.
